Microsoft is trying to create the opportunity to turn your vehicle into an everyday place to remotely join an office meeting, as in these current times remote work is more common due to the pandemic era.
“You can now join Teams meetings and make calls hands-free on the road using Siri,” says Microsoft. A new set of features is to be announced that is designed to improve hybrid work models, which has become the new norm at many workplaces.
While the idea of having work related calls and meetings while on the wheel is fairly a new flow, the idea to be able to join meetings while in vehicles many benefit many those who have a lengthy commute to their respective offices daily.
The excuses such as “apologies, I was travelling” however, may most likely not be accepted if this system is up and running.
It is mentioned by Microsoft that anyone who owns an iPhone and drives a compatible car may be able to join their Teams meetings using their car’s audio entertainment system during driving when the new feature is completed.
To ensure safety, the driver only needs to use voice commands to Apple’s Siri assistant. This will ensure that the driver doesn’t need to take their hands off the steering wheel and their eyes will stay on the road the whole time.
A point that is to be noted is that this only supports audio only, meaning there will be no video image available on the car display. As current automobiles do not have any webcams and the display of video footage on screen for drivers is banned in many places as well.
This new feature that is being developed is only limited to Apple users currently. While Android Auto has some compatibility with Microsoft Teams, the limitation is that it only receives chat notifications.
